no kidding about the warranties crap! Thats why its best to buy a 5 yr warranty Seagate + external enclosure for $20-50 and if it dies, take it out, send it in, voila new drive! Btw i've lost 5 out of 11 external hard drives in the last 5 years, amounting to 2 TB of data so far. I only use external drives for backup anymore, anything else is unwise. My most recent lost was a WD passport 80gb drive, which also had a 1yr warranty on it and died 2 weeks after the warranty went out. These 2.5" drives are supposed to be considerably more rugged than their 3.5" counterparts, thus the higher price and why they're in laptops.. and i frequently work on my laptop whilst in the train, airplane, in my backpack (rendering something while i'm going somewhere) etc. and never had a problem yet in 5 years! Go figure.
