No argument from me on that point.
I doubt the “odd” connection would prevent the show (if picked up) from being a compelling story (if you like basketball, that is).
Two ways to look at it:
ITS A BLATANT RIPOFF…
or
ITS BEEN 12 YEARS AND A SHOW LIKE THIS COULD BE TIMELY. AUDIENCES WANT IT….

JOSH! Just found your site, love the interviews and editing tricks, thanks man. Love the compositing, can you over edit this stuff or is that what they want, i guess you have to when you work with crap eh? BTW, I saw your interview on fresh, where can i get an 8gig p2 card for 900 bucks? And I don’t get it? Why will P2 technology die, isn’t it the only way to get uncompressed true HD footage at the consumer or prosumer level? unless they make minidvXXX that hits 50-100 mbps isn’t this going to rock all worlds? with a firestorm drive hvx owns or i’m dreaming? hey i’m PA’ing to buy one of these so if i’m nutso let me know.

You can absolutley overedit. Part of the editing finess is to know when to stop. I have a mental editing system that works for me - knowing when to stop is intuitive - its systematic, I have a process using layers and elimination that would text much longer than this text box to explain, but that’s how I know when to stop. Its come from years of cutting.
Here’s my comment to you over on FresHDV:
I did make a mistake about the price of the 8GB P2 cards. The cheapest you can find an 8GB P2 card is actually $1400 which only further hammers home my point. Panasonic’s marketing materials suggest you can justify the expense of the P2 media by amortizing over time which is also….fucking retarded.
If you want to shoot 720p, then go buy the JVC. There is no question the IDEA of P2 and SOLID STATE MEMORY is great, but in current practice it’s not feasible. You say you’re an HVX enthusiast - have you played with one first-hand? Try it - then tell us about you enthusiasm.
Hey, I love my DVX100. Fucking love that camera. I really wanted the HVX to work, but I’m just not sold on it. I want to be able to shoot more than two minutes at a time, and I don’t want to carry a hard drive with me. I don’t believe the image produced by the HVX to be superior to the Z1U, therefore - the HVX is not worth the price burden or hassle of extraneous periphials while shooting. You might be able to find a way to make P2 to work for your production, but for my money the HVX is not worth it.
As a cameraman, I just know the HVX will not work for me. Swapping P2 cards all the time does not jive with my workflow. Carrying around a hard drive does not jive with my workflow. It may for you, and if so - then dump $9G’s on the HVX.
You’re right that DVCPRO HD can presently only be captured using P2, but if you look at rentals on a ProIndie level, shooting Varicam or CineAlta is not that much more expensive.
Next week I’m going to have an interesting breakdown after visiting my local rental shop.

thanks so much for the feedback on both sites, felt a bit shameful after for spamming a lil. i’ve never actually used the hvx so i really have no idea how it will handle. as it was sold to me “the swiss army of camcorders”, this is what got me thinkin it was the only camera to buy because regardless of the job you can still choose the format that best suits. and the price messup for the P2’s was killin me because i’m PA’ing and saving for this damn thing and it’s taking way too long! neway thanks for the ear, sry for redundance
oh yeah, the compositing of shite footage, genious, must take a bunch more time depending on your horse but i’m definitely going to be using the technique on low budg. footage.

Have you ever been to ‘you tube’? they let you host videos there and you can hotlink them on your blogs. it’s really cool and you don’t have to bandwidth on the videos, cause its free.
