So I have been wondering when I was going to see that video "O Valencia" come out. It was shot in 16mm on the Arri 16SR3. And, actually quite a bit of $$ went into the production, even if the results don't reflect that. I know this because I worked as 2nd Assistant Camera on that shoot. Only it was my understanding that Cat Solen would be doing all the animation by hand for the video, considering she directed the video and discussed her plans for it on set. She's done videos for Bright Eyes and Death Cab for Cutie. It was shot here in Portland with the director and keys being flown up from LA. Additional crew was found locally, myself included. I had a lot of faith in Cat and thought she would really make something great out of it. So what happened? I can only assume that the record company pulled the plug during post production, perhaps due to less than impressive record sales. So instead we get this horribly cut video to play with and embarass everyone involved. What a shame. I know for a fact that there was a lot more interesting footage than that. The shots they chose were poorly framed and don't cut together well. And do they use that same bad close up of the drums twice? Terrible, dissapointing, and, I suppose, a little funny. Hey Josh.
