The Saddest Tofu Ever

Too bad I’m not Catholic otherwise this would have gone on eBay with a starting bid of $100,000. For charity, of course.

I love the colors in this image - forget the tofu. Did you arrange the color, or do something in post, or is your dining room really this gorgeous?
On a different note, I’ve often told my veggie loving wife that tofu is no different than veal — the little soybeans were ‘ripped untimely from their mothers’ wombs’ just like the veal was…

Couple factors working for the image there. Had some nice summer evening light coming in from several of the kitchen windows and I managed to hold the camera and tofu steady enough for a snap at 1/20th. Also, Blanket helped me with framing there in the background.

I jacked with the colors a bit in photoshop, dropping some reds and increasing the vignette. You can see the original image, here.

You may be right that the soybeans do miss the comfort of their mother plant’s womb, but far less energy goes into the raising, harvesting, and refining of tofu as opposed to baby cows. Plus, there’s the shit, piss, and blood to deal with around the killing of the cow, not to mention the massive tonnage of manure the cow will produce in it’s lifetime.

The sad tofu’s eyes are made from ‘lil broccoli sprouts. It was Thai night at home…mmmmmm

Great photo, Josh. I’m jealous! Funny how the vignette always helps a picture, huh? I need to experiment with that…

    Hey Josh,

You’ve found another great use for tofu.

Just put it on a fork and you can hypnotize a cat at 5 (approx.) feet.

    Be well,

    Jerry
